Antique rose problem #872167

Asked June 08, 2024, 10:43 AM EDT

I have two roses that were propagated at OSU OKC horticultural from an antique rose that has been in my family for 200 years. They had a hard winter and came back from the roots. One has bud and rose damage that starts when buds. One put on one rose, but is showing no signs of growth. Fertilized 3 weeks ago. Please see pics.

The flower bud damage is likely from a beetle or grasshoppers. Inspect them regularly and remove or treat to keep them under control.

Depending on how healthy the root system is, it may take time for them to fully recover from the winter damage. Watch and treat for pest issues and only do light fertilization. To understand the best approach for fertilization applications a soil test should be conducted, this can be done through the Oklahoma County OSU Extension Center, they can also assist you with additional issues you might have - https://extension.okstate.edu/county/oklahoma/
