I am looking at getting a couple lavender trees. I have done some research and got mixed information or what size pot to put a lacender tree in. Can you please help with this? The tree is already in an 8" pot

Hello,
It is hard to say without seeing the plant and its root system, but typically you do not want to transplant into a much larger pot right away, instead planting in a pot that is 2-3 inches larger than the current one AT MOST. If this tree is already large and seeming root-bound, you may want to go to 4 inches larger. The most important thing is to make sure this plant is getting the recommended sun and that the pot has a drainage hole to ensure proper drainage. Sunlight and moisture considerations will vary dependent on the exact type of lavender you will be growing, though most lavenders prefer full sun and good drainage. Using the scientific name to search for care recommendations will be very helpful. Here is a good site to look up care recommendations for all types of plants:https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/. I think you are probably referring to Lavandula stoechas, also known by a number of common names. Here is some more information about this plant:https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/lavandula-stoechas/
I hope this is helpful. Thank you for contacting Ask Extension.
