Hello. I stumbled across a bag of seeds and I need help identifying them. I think the seeds are perennial ryegrass seeds but I am not sure. The bag is only labelled "Grass Seeds" so I am assuming the label is correct. The seeds are approx. 3/16th inches long by 1.5/16th-1/8th inches wide. One side of the seed has a small divet of sorts going down the length of the seed. Seed color is similar to the color of a peanut.
Pictures are included.

Expert Response
It is difficult to identify the variety of seed based on individual seeds, but we're checking with an expert to see if he can help. When we get more information, we'll get back to you.
Serena,
these do not look like any turfgrass seed. If I had to guess, I would say that they are oats or cereal rye.
I would not recommend planting any grass seed that is not a certified seed. We recently created a webpage to help users learn what to look for with grass seed.
