Expert Response

Dear Aaron,

Thank you for contacting us about the weed in your lawn. It is difficult to identify from a single photo, however, it appears that the plant may be Clinopodium vulgare, or wild basil, a member of the mint family. Here is more information on this plant: https://www.nwcb.wa.gov/weeds/wild-basil

The recommended control in lawns is to pull or dig it out, removing all root runners. There is no selective herbicide that can be used without damaging the lawn or other plants.

Maintaining a healthy lawn is the best means of preventing weeds in lawns.
