Asked May 19, 2024, 12:53 PM EDT

We planted this tree last year. We just noticed white fungus or something on the back of leaves. What is this and how do we treat it? Thanks

Hello Monica
These insects are Phyllaphis fagi, woolly beach leaf aphids. They can exude sticky honey dew and make a mess, but are not life threatening to the tree. You can rinse them off with a strong spray of water, which is most friendly to preserving beneficial insects hat may also be present.
