Here are some helpful resources.  Each one includes trees/shrubs/plants that are suitable for sunny locations.

Oregon Native plants
 - Oregon State Extension - "Recommended Native Plants for Home Gardens in Western Oregon" -  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/sites/default/files/documents/1/nativeplantreclist.pdf

- Lincoln County Soil & Water Conservation District - Recommended plant list -  http://www.lincolnswcd.org/native-plant-database.html

Also here are some resources that provide information on erosion control.  These also identify plants that would be suitable for sunny locations.

Thank you Bill, this is extremely helpful. I also should have added what plants won’t attract deer since I was told they are around where I’ll be living.
I’ll see what I can find unless you have a list of deer resistant plants that grow on the Oregon coast.

Thank you,
Gayle

Hi Gayle - Yes deer can be a problem in some areas.  If they are hungry enough they will eat almost any plant available.    Here is an Oregon State Extension article about deer defense using plants they find offensive - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/techniques/best-deer-defense-are-plants-they-find-offensive

Here also is a link to an Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife site about Living with Wildlife - https://www.dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/living_with/deer_elk.asp
