How can I organically eradicate this plant? #867397

Asked May 07, 2024, 11:04 AM EDT

Hello! I'm a landscaper working with a client who wants to rid her yard of this invasive plant. She has no idea what it is, but she's certain she didn't plant it (at least not intentionally). The area pictured was the location of her chicken coop, if that helps. This is what the area looks like two weeks after I mow. Any help is appreciated, and thank you!

Sorry-trying again, did not mean to hit send earlier.

From your photo it looks like Petasites japonica variegatus or the common name butter bur, but I have included a link below for you to compare and make sure.  As the link notes this is a sought after plant by many people because it does spread easily and makes a nice ground cover for shady areas.  I brought it back once from a garden tour and it does look nice in a garden.  I don’t know of any organic way to get rid of a plant that spreads by rhizomes underground.  Digging it out is the only organic way I know of.  It doesn’t like sun so it might die of it own if the area is sunny.
