You clearly state that orange juice can be safely canned, however you don't indicate if this applies strictly to fresh squeezed or if a commercial bottle of pure orange juice would also fall under the safe canning guidelines. Can I have clarity please? Thank you!

Hi Sandra, I'm sorry, can you help me with the source? In the OSU Extension Canning Fruits publication, PNW 199, the Fruit Juice recipe refers to fruits that are mentioned in the publication separately. Other than that, I'm not familiar with another source for canned oranges or orange juice. Fresh squeezed or commercial orange juice alone is not recommended for canning, but it can be safely frozen. Oranges and orange juice can be a tasty ingredient in a wide range of products when acid, like more acidic foods, bottled lemon juice or vinegar (and sometimes sugar) are included. The new Ball Blue Book (2024) is a good source of creative, safe and tested recipes.
