Black bear scat (?) With parasites (?) #860959

Asked March 09, 2024, 11:22 AM EST

I was hiking in the Hudson valley yesterday, near Cornwall , NY .  I found this fresh scat (thinking it was dumped within mins of my finding it) .  Based on prior experience with finding this size/caliber of scat , i'm calling it a black bear dump.  If you can confirm, I'd appreciate it.  It may look puny in the photo , but irl, the thickest tube was 1 and 1/2" in diam.  Also , if you zoom a bit, you can clearly see many small white dots ; are they eggs ?  ( esp topmost portion and far right portion of scat) ; Are they parasites ?  I'm curious , so I'd love to know.  Also looks like there's a bit of gravel thrown in .  Hard on the digestion !!

Hello. Based on the photo you sent, it could be bear scat or possibly coyote. I recommend that you contact NYS DEC Wildlife at<personal data hidden>. They are more qualified to answer this type of inquiry. I am sorry that I could not give you a more definitive answer. Regards, George, Master Gardener Volunteer

Thanks for that but it did not have the features or the size of coyote scat , imo . Too big .
