We could not find any specific research based information about the benefits of growing sweet potatoes and morning glories as companion plants. However, when looking at the characteristics of the morning glory plant it does not appear advisable. Morning Glory spreads quickly and can be difficult to control, it may overwhelm your raised bed. Some varieties may be poisonous and Morning Glory has a caution - low severity poison characteristic, not an advisable companion in a vegetable garden.
The number of scientific studies regarding companion planting is small compared to publications based on anecdotal evidence. Personal experience of effective plant groupings are useful and can be observed over time. Following are links that provide information about companion planting alternatives for vegetable gardens.
