What would be a good soil and medium mux for my philodendron? #857733

Asked January 23, 2024, 6:58 PM EST

My philodendron has been trying to survive in very bad soil for years with almost no drainage at all. I am going to give her a total soil makeover and I need to know some excellent ingredients and mixtures. Thank you, Duane Clark in Florence and thanks for all your help in the past.

It probably would be best to try out a mix of 50-75% indoor potting soil and 25-50% coconut coir.   The coir, a renewable resource,  will help with aeration and drainage.

This is an article about the benefits of using coconut coir from Oregon State Extension - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/coir-sustainable-alternative-peat-moss-garden

Here's also some information about coir from Washington State Extension - https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/2080/2018/03/coconut-coir.pdf
