Fiddle Leaf Fig Leaves Dying #847121

Asked August 24, 2023, 1:13 PM EDT

Our 7-foot tall fiddle leaf fig, with 3 large branches from the main trunk, has been dropping leaves. The leaves become discolored and then fall off. Strangely, the dying leaves are in the middle of the branches -- not near the trunk or the growth end. They also don't look like other discolored leaves I found on the internet. The plant has great light by a window, and we give it about 2 quarts of water each week. Any ideas? Thank you!

Expert Response

Hello,

From the picture you sent, the brown and black spots on the leaves and leaf loss may be a drainage problem and root rot. The possible cause of root rot is too large of a container, the wrong soil, and too much water. If your problem is severe, you will want to repot your plant to a new container with perfect drainage and use fast-draining soil to make sure your plant’s roots can breathe.
