Thanks for submitting your question to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

While we are not quite ideal for xeriscaping with our humidity, you can find more drought tolerant plants with the EarthKInd program. This helps reduce maintenance and resources for more resilient plants. Earth-Kind Home - Earth-Kind Landscaping Earth-Kind Landscaping (tamu.edu)

Texas Superstars are also something to consider. They have proven to be consistent growers across Texas with Texas climate. Again, many are drought tolerant. Texas Superstar

However, drought tolerant does not mean plants can live without water. Not only are we experiencing drought conditions right now, but the intense heat is taking an additional toll. Without enough water, plants cannot transpire from their leaves... similiar to us sweating to help our bodies keep cool. There really is no planting that will account for the heat and drought conditions we are in right now. We can just do our best to supplemental water our priority trees and shrubs. Annuals and perennials can be replaced at a much lower cost than woody ornamentals.

Incorporating native options that work for your landscape can also ease maintenance and water demands. Many are included in with EarthKind.

Best of luck!
