Hello Marla,
You have two plants of what is commonly called Virginia Stickseed, Virginia Tickseed, or beggar's lice. The Latin name is Hackelia virginiana. The plant is a biennial, meaning the seed germinates, and grows one year, then flowers, and sets seeds the next. The stick, tick part of the common name comes from the fact that the seeds are burr like, and stick to clothing, hair, and fur. It's not part of any noxious weed group, and is easy to control by pulling if it's in a place you don't want it to be - such as along a pathway. It's also a source of food for some game birds.
These pages from the Illinois and Minnesota Wildflower groups, and Ohio State Woodland Stewards provide more information about growth habit, insect and animal interest, and lifecycle.
