Trimming a Miss Kim Lilac #834925

The 2 Miss Kim Lilacs's were full of blooms this spring! I would like to trim the whole bush about a foot as they are blocking other plants. The last blooms will soon fade. Is it OK?

Thank you for reaching out to Ask Extension with your pruning question about your Miss Kim Lilacs.

To answer your question, yes, you can prune your lilacs once the blooms are done. The BEST time for pruning them is right after they flower actually. If you wait too long in the season after flowering, you risk pruning off all of next springs blooms, so you have impeccable timing with your question!
