Hello-
I currently have a lilac bush in my backyard am interested in starting a new one, to give to a friend at work.
What is the best way to do this? I am hoping that you might have a preferred way of doing this; any suggestions/specific products' names is appreciated...

Lilacs can be easily propagated by cuttings or suckers. It is also possible to start them from seeds, but they take up to four years to bloom.
An excellent article on propagation can be found at the following website:
Make sure you have clean and sharp clippers or shovels when propagating. Spring, just after bloom time is the best time to either cut or dig the source. Either must be potted and watered over the summer months, planting them in the Fall to allow them to set the roots.
