Broody hen no rooster #828933

Asked May 08, 2023, 11:25 AM EDT

Any suggestions on how to either stop a hen from being fanatically broody OR find her some viable eggs to sit on from a local chicken farmer? I have 6 hens and no rooster. One hen is going for broke with broodiness. One year old. Thank you

Hi, your question has 2 parts. "How to either stop a hen from being fanatically broody OR find her some viable eggs".   The second part is the easiest, fertile eggs.  Your local egg producer may have some fertile eggs.   Or you can search "Ohio Hatcheries" and you will find many great commercial poultry producers where you can order fertile eggs.

Change the hen's nesting area, remove the nesting material, change the hen nesting location options. All of these may disrupt her instinct to brood.
