Good drainage is key for lemon trees. Ideally, they need a loam or sandy loam soil, but can grow well in other soil types as long as there is good drainage. Heavy clay soil will hold lots of water and will likely cause issues, so avoid planting into a heavy clay soil. The optimal soil pH for a Meyer lemon is 5.5 to 6.5 (moderate to slightly acidic).
