Hello!
I found information that suggested the American Hazelnut is a good species and a native to NC and the eastern part of the US. I am attaching a link to the NCSU Plant Toolbox that gives you all the details and some nice images. It will help you decide what to do. https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/corylus-avellana/
Also, I would wait to plant trees in the fall. It is much easier to get them established at that time of year. Fall planting encourages the tree to grow the roots that help the tree that first year.
For a location to buy search on this site, Buy NC Plants;

Good luck and please let us know if you have any other questions.
