best drought tolerant thyme to replace grass #821690

Asked March 05, 2023, 10:24 AM EST

I would like to replace the grass between the sidewalk and street with a drought tolerant creeping thyme that is short in height. It appears there are a lot of different kinds which is best. Since the water rates have more than doubled I cannot afford to water as much but still would like to have a nice area There is a large maple tree in the same area which sucks most of the water . The soil is semi sandy and has lots of ant hills. Thanks for any help

Hello.

Your selection of Creeping Thyme is an excellent source for pollinators.  Here is some information about this

One concern would be salt spray from the roadway.
