Has there been any study or research done locally at CSU or other institution regarding the use of micro clover (Trifolium repens var. Pipolina) in the Denver area or along the Front Range in a park or commercial use setting? Curious to know if this is a viable option as a ground cover instead of turf.

Hello,
Limited research done at CSU with microclovers found that they didn't stay "micro" and reverted to the typical larger-leaf clover. That said, they generally grew well.
It can be considered as an alternative ground cover. It does need regular water (probably about 1" per week during the hottest parts of summer) and may need more water if it's in a high-traffic area. Please see the attached publication that gives a bit more detail on clover lawns.
