Keeping deer from jumping fences #818762

Asked January 18, 2023, 10:15 AM EST

1. If I use a double fence on the outside of a raised bed garden and then closely place raised beds and pots inside the fence how likely are deer to jump it. 2. I’ve read fences must be eight ft high but with a double fence is that height necessary? Thanks.

Expert Response

Regarding the query on the deer fence height. Yes, the fence will need to be at least 8 feet high to prevent deer from jumping over the fence. Might also be a good idea to reinforce chicken wire to a height of 3-4 feet to keep rabbits from getting into raised beds.

Good luck and happy gardening.
