Asked May 16, 2022, 9:44 AM EDT

I would like to plant several Willow Oak (Quercus phellos) trees in my Plymouth Michigan Yard. Planting guides state that this tree is hardy to zone 5. Can I plant the tree with confidence in Plymouth MI 48170?

Washtenaw County Michigan

Expert Response

Hello Robert,

Plymouth, Michigan is in USDA Hardiness Zones 6a

Willow oak trees (Quercus phellos) are native to the United States. They are hardy in USDA zones 5 or 6a through 9b, making their range the whole of the west coast, most of the east coast, and the entire south and southwest. The trees are fast-growing

Hope this helps!!
