I bought some bare root strawberry plants. They were in a cooler at the store, so I put them in my refrigerator. I want to plant them in an area that I have covered with cardboard since last August to smother the weeds. The weeds are attempting to come up. When should I uncover the plot and plant the strawberries?

Expert Response
You bought bare root plants so they are still dormant. Place the strawberry roots in water and let it soak for 10-20 min before you plant. Prepare the soil. Once you place the plant in the ground add moisture so the plant will start to grow again. Mulch the plants with straw or bark to conserve water. Fertilize the plants after 4 weeks. Water the plants often until the roots are established. Please read the following site to learn about planting strawberries.
