This looks like a commonly-used evergreen shrub called Manhattan Euonymus (botanical name Euonymus kiautschovicus cultivar 'Manhattan'). Although some related non-native Euonymus species have become invasive in Maryland, to our knowledge this particular variety doesn't seem to be spreading into natural areas.
The mature size of this variety is roughly 8-10' tall and wide, though as you've noticed, it can easily be pruned a bit smaller in either dimension. If deer visit your yard, we suggest using an alternative because they do enjoy eating Euonymus foliage and can cause a lot of damage, even for such fast-growing plants.
