Fertilizing fruit trees #785914

Asked April 05, 2022, 4:25 PM EDT

Just purchased a home with apple pear and cherry trees. Most are mature, but there are some younger ones. I think it’s time to fertilize. What should I use? Also what kind of compost do you recommend and how much to compost?

Growing Tree Fruit and Nuts in the Home Orchard

Towards the end is the information on fertilizing, but there is lots of other useful care information too. Compost is not necessarily the best fertilizer for fruit trees, though it certainly wouldn't hurt to add it as well as any specific nutrients they need. Before adding fertilizer, it would be best to get the soil tested to see if there are actually any deficiencies.
