Pollinate indoor tomatoes #782922

Asked March 01, 2022, 2:32 PM EST

I planted cherry tomatoes from my harvest. They are in the window and also supplimented with a small plant light. Amazingly, I have flowers buds. Here are my questions: 1. What is the best way to pollinate? I've read that the vibration of an electric toothbrush mimics a bee. You just use the back side of the brush on the base of the flower, not inside the bloom. Is that a good idea or should I do something else? 2. Should I cut the runners? Since this plant is indoors and in a pot, it will be smaller than if it was in my garden. I'm afraid if I cut the runners, I'll be cutting my harvest. Thanks!

Yes, you can hand pollinate flowers - essentially you are just shaking the plants. Cherry tomatoes, unless they are bush plants, are very tall and leggy, so you will probably want to stake and prune them. Good luck!
here is a short video on shaking tomato plants for better pollination.
