Too Late to Divide and Transplant Astilbes #771432

Asked September 13, 2021, 8:01 PM EDT

I just read that it's best to divide and transplant astilbes in the fall. Is this true? If so, is it too late to do so in Winona County? How late into the fall might it be safe to transplant the astilbes? Otherwise, how about spring - when best to do so in the spring? Thanks!

Winona County Minnesota

Expert Response

It is not too late to divide and transplant the astilbes.  Even though it's theoretically possible to do this until the ground freezes, you chances are better if you complete the process by mid-October.  Read the following article for good information about this question.
