Spider plant #771022

Asked September 07, 2021, 10:56 AM EDT

I have a spider plant outside on my deck with numerous branches coming off it. I’m used to seeing just one spider baby at a time. Are these all viable plants and if so, how do I propagate them?

Expert Response

Division is the easiest method of multiplying spider plants since they naturally produce offsets. There are little knob-like protrusions and tiny roots on the bottom of each spiderette. Spider plant propagation simply involves planting the spiderette in a pot filled with any lightweight potting mix. Separate it from the mother plant when the spiderette has a good root system. A bent paper clip can be used to hold the plantlet in contact with the soil until it develops roots.
