• Is the plant under or near an AC vent?
• It looks like it is in front of a window. Is it receiving direct sunlight or filtered (through curtain)? If direct, how many hours?
• How long has it been in the current pot.
• Look at the roots, are they white and healthy? Are they brown and look to be too wet?

I see a new leaf opening which is a good sign.

1. Not under or near AC vent
2. Direct sunlight about 8hrs/day
3. Bought it 1 week ago and was not root bound at that time
4. Roots were white when looked a week ago

Hard to tell how often to water.  Using watering globe at present time to try to not overwater.  Is misting helpful or will it cause black spots.

Further question about peace lily:

How do you handle the leaves that have large black spots? Do you cut out just the black portion of the leaf or cut the whole leaf out or just leave it not looking so good?

I think the plant is in a transplant/new environment shock. The plant is used to low light levels and the 8 hours of direct sun are too much. Try lowering the blinds and provide filtered sunlight, this will help with the blotches on the foliage (it should keep new ones from forming). The best way to determine if the plant needs water is by lifting the pot. A well watered pot will be heavy and not need any additional water. When the pot is light and easy to lift, it is time to water.
