Cooking with mint #757752

Asked June 22, 2021, 3:02 PM EDT

Are all varieties of mint edible? A friend gave me a cutting from her garden, and it is growing well in a pot. I often use mint in cooking, and I want to be sure this plant will be safe to use. Thank you.

Expert Response

There are some toxic and some inedible mints; it is a large family of plants. Your mint 'looks' ok. However, I would ask your friend if s/he has eaten it or knows that it is a "regular" culinary mint. It is never safe to eat something which you are unsure about.

Thank you. I will talk with my friend.
