Is prunus americana self pollinating? #747527

Asked May 02, 2021, 5:04 PM EDT

Hello, I am interested in planting native plants only in my yard. If I plant two prunus americana plants in my yard, will they pollinate themselves and bear fruit? Or, do I need a different variety to cross-pollinate the plant? I live in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Thank you!

Expert Response

Prunus americana is self fertile. The trees you plant will not need a pollinator to bear fruit.
