Snake plants, Sansevieria, make very good houseplants. They are very hardy and easy to grow and maintain. The biggest issue is overwatering the plants. They should dry out between waterings. It is essential to have good drainage in the pot they are planted in. Make sure there are a number of holes in the bottom of the pot to allow excess water to drain out. 

I would check your pot for drainage holes and if the pot does not have any holes for drainage you could repot the plant into a better pot or make some holes in the existing pot to ensure better drainage. If your moisture meter is showing wet soil it is okay to not water the plant until such time that the soil dries out. A snake plant can go 2-8 weeks without water. Less water is needed in the winter months. If you decide to repot your plant you can use a mix of a cactus soil and potting soil. The cactus soil has more small pebbles or lava rock that will help to allow water to flow through the soil. You can add perlite to the mix to aid in allowing better drainage. 

Often plants in greenhouses are watered daily, so you may buy a snake plant that has very wet soil. You can allow it to dry out before you water it again.
