Cercospora leaf spot Cercospora melongenae on eggplant #678292

Asked December 15, 2020, 2:30 PM EST

I am a hobby gardener. How do I treat Cercospora leaf spot on my (potted) Black Beauty eggplant? How often should I water? I can't find whether it is safe to spray the eggplant with fungicide when fruit is present and maturing . Can I treat after harvest? and what is the best commercial spray available that is effective. Can the plant be saved?

Thank you,

Hi Mary,

I would recommend the following link for common pests and diseases of eggplant:

Managing Pests in Gardens: Vegetables: Eggplant (ucanr.edu)

There are commercial fungicides which are suitable for use on the plant, but as an organization we are not allowed to make recommendations as to specific brands. A quick google search or visit to your local garden store will enable you to identify a product that is safe to use and also effective. Also look at where you are growing the plant and ensure that you are following the cultural guidelines in the link with regard to air circulation, water, and cultivation habits (like a layer of mulch on the surface of the soil) that will minimize the spread of the spores.
