Philodendron Brandtianum #677079

Asked November 07, 2020, 9:34 PM EST

My philodendron brandtianum has had all of it's new growth coming in pale and deformed. It's like half of the leaf didnt form correctly. I have looked high and low trying to find any information without success. None of the more common reasons given ( water, lighting, humidity) seem to pertain to my plant in particular. The older mature leaves are perfectly fine.

It can be normal for the new foliage to come out pale initially. Also, if the plant was outdoors for the summer, it may take a while to adjust to the new location indoors.

Indoors check the light, watering, and humidity for philodendron. If the humidity is low, the foliage may not unfurl quite right.

Light - grow the plant in bright filtered light but out of direct sunlight. Although they will survive in poor light, the stems will elongate unnaturally and the plant will lack their characteristic close growth and striking leaf color. Normal room temperatures are suitable.

Watering - During the active growth period water moderately, giving enough at each watering to moisten the potting mixture throughout and allow the top half inch of the mixture to dry between waterings. During the short mid winter rest period water only enough to keep the entire mixture from drying out completely.
