SPLIT LEAF PHILODENDRON | MONSTERA DELICIOSA - can I remove the arms #647400

Asked June 07, 2020, 2:43 PM EDT

I don't know what to call them, but they are the vine that wraps around the tree trunk. Can I remove them from my indoor philodendron? Will it hurt the plant if removed.

Expert Response

The aerial roots would help the plant attach to a tree trunk in a jungle. Many people use a post for this purpose in their home, growing the plant as a vine. You’ll find images online showing how they grow.
I found advice that it is okay to trim off the “air roots” if you are not needed to support the plant.  https://wimastergardener.org/article/split-leaf-philodendron-monstera-deliciosa/
