Help finding a 33-0-0 or 34-0-0 fertilizer or alt. recommendation #635575

Asked May 14, 2020, 3:35 PM EDT

Hi there, I received my soil test report back, and it recommends I add .15lb/10 sq ft of 33-0-0 or 34-0-0 ratio fertilizer to my vegetable garden. I tried looking at Home Depot, Ace, and Bachman's, but I couldn't find anything with this specific ratio. Do you know where I could find this specific fertilizer or how I can still get the necessary nutrients for my garden? I've added photos of my report to help. Thanks, Frannie

Expert Response

Hi, Frannie, thanks for your question.

As a part of the University’s Extension program, we’re not able to recommend particular commercial stores, but you could do a quick search online by typing “33-0-0 fertilizer” or “34-0-0 fertilizer” into a search engine. There should be some results for either stores near you or places online where you could order it. You could also try calling local nurseries to see if they have any nitrogen-only fertilizers.

The recommendation for 33-0-0 refers to the proportion you’ll want of the following nutrients: Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium (or NPK). So basically, you’re looking for a moderate nitrogen-only fertilizer since you already have high amounts of phosphorus and potassium in your soil.

For nitrogen-only fertilizers, you could also try using forms of fish emulsion, blood meal, urea, or seed meal. You can read more about it here:

Also, depending on what you’re growing, your soil’s pH could be considered high—some forms of nitrogen fertilizers could help lower the pH. You can also read more about how to adjust your soil’s pH here:

Good luck and happy gardening this season!
