Disposing of Pine Needles and Pine Cones (Yard Trash) #623469

Asked April 12, 2020, 4:57 PM EDT

I have raked up a LOT of pine needles and pine cones from my yard in Jefferson County. How can I dispose of this? If I use bags, this will mean filling over 140 plastic bags which sit in the landfill for many years. We have a burn ban in Jeffco. Any suggestions? Thank you very much Jan

Expert Response

Dry pine needles can be a fire hazard, and so recommendations might depend a bit on where you are located in Jefferson County. Pine needles can be used as an effective mulch, and some* of the needles could be mixed in with compost. These are my two best suggestions for how to dispose of your pine needles.
