What's wrong with My Joe Pie Weed? #582400

Asked July 22, 2019, 11:48 AM EDT

I have white papery spots on my Joe Pie Weed plants. They are two different varieties and are located in two different spots in the yard. Is there a treatment for this?

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

The papery tan spots in the leaves of your Joe Pye weeds are the larvae of a fly like insect called a leaf miner. They do little  permanent damage to your plant. Unfortunately insecticides can not work once they are inside of the leaves.
