I have a full grown lilac bush at my home, and for the last 3 years it has produced white flowers. This year however my tree is producing purple flowers. From what I have read, lilacs do not change the color of their flowers.

While it is a proven fact that you can change the color of the hydrangea blossom by changing the pH of the soil, which is not true of lilacs. Can't know for sure why this happened to your lilac. My best guess would be that your plant was grown on a white lilac root stock, and the graft died, so it reverted back to white. Record winter could have factored in as well because we are seeing unusual plant problems this year, not blooming at all etc. A soil test might yield more useful information. https://homesoiltest.msu.edu/
Otherwise if the plant is healthy you could just enjoy the white flowers.
