Pea Weevils - safe to eat snap peas with larvae? #467272

The snap and snow peas in my garden plot in Eugene, OR often get pea weevils (the beetles with larvae that bore a hole in the seeds when they emerge as adults). We usually figure this out after we have been eating the peas and save the seeds, but this year I'm seeing them on the pods. We've never noticed any ill effects from eating them (raw pods with larvae), but is it potentially harmful?

The
weevils are OK to eat, but the peas may have mold from the damage. You need to sort the peas carefully and only eat the ones that show no signs of mold. Mold can be harmful especially for people in the at risk group. (those with compromised immune systems, infants and small children, pregnant women and the elderly.
