bat bugs as permanent residents #459326

Asked June 04, 2018, 2:01 AM EDT

We used to have migratory bats that would nest next to our chimney on the 2nd floor every fall.  After my first experience with bat bugs I filled the crevice after they left for the winter and have seen no droppings since.  According to your website a bat bug population won't be sustained on human blood but after many years I still get bitten, usually in early summer or early fall.  I am highly allergic and wondering if I should hire an exterminator.

Aside from bed bugs there are some other things that may be producing bites and these are summarized in the sheet at: http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/mystery-bites-and-itches-arthropod-and-non-arthro...  This goes through what the things are that bite - and the things that can produce bite-like symptoms that are not insects.  This may help you track down a possible cause so that it can be dealt with.

The services of a pest control professional could be very useful if there is some insect that bites and has persisted for a long time.
