No cucumbers #421116

Asked August 14, 2017, 12:48 PM EDT

We have beautiful cucumber plants with lots of flowers and bees, but not one single cucumber.  I've spoken with 4 other people in Colorado and they are having the same issue.  Are you aware of any current issues with cucumber growth?

Expert Response

Thanks for contacting us about your cucumbers. High temperature is the most common problem causing these flowers to abort. Day temperatures in the 90s and/or night temperatures in the mid to high 70s (F) can lead to loss of these female flowers or small fruits, and fruit set is sacrificed until growing conditions improve. We’ve had several periods of these temperatures fairly early in the season. You should see an improvement now that the temperatures have cooled.

In the future, if we have early seasonal high temperatures, consider using some shade cloth during those times to keep the temperature a few degrees cooler.
