Roses and Scarab Beetles #415899

Asked July 21, 2017, 2:12 PM EDT

What is the best way to control scarab beetles on my roses?  I encourage them to go for a swim in soapy water, but some fly away before diving.  Others I spray with soapy water, but it seems to just slow them down.  Worse yet, they seem to be mating on the plants.  I have very few roses left because I have been deadheading the eaten ones.  What else can I do to control them and is the situation likely to be different next year?

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your beetle problem. Scarab Beetles come in many varieties. A few photos would be necessary to identify the type of beetle so we could give a more accurate answer.

I am including a link to a fact sheet regarding Japanese Beetles which can be a problem on rose bushes. http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/japanese-beetle-5-601/

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

They are, in fact, the Japanese variety.  I can take them diving 10 times a day, yet there are always more.
