Hi - I live in the Lehigh Valley. I recently discovered these ants in my house - inside a first floor closet near the front door. We've had smaller ants before (the "typical" summer ants), but these are larger and have had alot of winged/flying ants mixed in - something we've never seen. There's been ALOT (100's) - both winged and non-winged. What type of ant are they and what's the best way to get rid of them? I just put out ant traps and have sprayed visible ones but want to make sure I have the correct solution for this species. Also want to make sure this isn't more serious - i.e. termites. Thanks!

When they have wings, they are unmated females. Once they mate, they drop their wings and look for a place to start a nest. She could become a problem if she nests in your building. However, you discovered the colony and now you make sure you got rid of it.
