KILL TREE STUMP #400351

Asked May 16, 2017, 3:11 PM EDT

I just had 3 trees cut down, they were frowing into the foundation of my house and cracking the cement. What is the best way to inseure the tres wont grow back or srout any off shoots? I heard drilling holes and filling them with epsom salt works. Figured I would contact the professionals.

Expert Response

Try to remove as much of the stump as possible by stump grinding or stump removal.  You may have to contact professionals for the best way to proceed. Epsom salts will not hasten decay.  Get as much of the stump removed as possible because as the stump decays it can attract termites.

the stumps are too close to the foundation, 2 companies told me they wouldnt be able to use a stump grinder, wouldn't even be able to manuver it up to the stumps. I am having a deck built and it will be built over the stumps. I just want to make sure they wont grow or produce off shoots off it. Is there something i can paint on them such as tar, anything at all?

Thank you for taking the time to discuss this with me.

You can cut the surface or drill some holes and paint the new cuts, especially at the edges with Round Up, Brush B Gone or something similar. Same with any sprouts that grow back.
Follow all label instructions carefully.
