i would like to try growing daughter plants from mature azelia plantings. When is the best time to do so? Where do I cut the mother plant and how? Do i place the cuttings in water or another medium? Approximately how long does it take for the cutting to grow enough root to be planted?
Thanks.

The optimal time of year for azalea propagation is roughly June-July and into the fall. Take four to six inch portions and use them for cuttings, following the directions in the following link. Do not root in water. Use a soilless mixture and dip the cuttings in a rooting hormone. Cuttings may root in about 6-8 weeks. http://www.clemson.edu/extension/hgic/hot_topics/2008/06propagation.html mh
