Collecting petunia seeds #346569

Asked July 25, 2016, 4:18 PM EDT

Hello, I watched a very good video online about how to collect petunia seeds. It showed small seed pods that can be collected when they turn brown. I do not see any of those on my petunia. Is there a season/month at which they start appearing? Thanks.
Attached is a picture from the video.

Expert Response

Seeds will normally form soon after a flower fades and the seeds are very small being almost like dust.

Hi Derek, should those pods appear randomly? After I deadhead my flowers I can see ONE black dot where the bloom was. I only found one of those pods out of 8 plants. So are you saying that the pod should "replace" the dead flower or do they grow independently?
Thanks for your advice.

The pod form where the flowers were. If you are deadheading you will not get any seed to form.
