Geraniums are long and leggy and struggling on my balcony that faces East . i've had them several years - gift of a deceased friend and I want to keep them alive. Do I dare cut them back now?

Hello,
Most geraniums look dead or dying in the heat of summer.
Fantasia violet and strawberry sizzle are really the best ones to grow as a short lived perennial.
Move plants to late afternoon shade in the summer and the rest of the year in full sun.
Fertilize container plants every three months with copious amounts of Osmocote slow release fertilizer. Supplement with a water soluble fertilizer weekly throughout the growing season.
Cut plants back by half way in late August.
