Asked February 26, 2016, 7:48 AM EST

Is Montgomery County, MD a suitable region to plant / grow lingonberries successfully? If so, when would be the right time to plant, and approximately how long until they would be ready to pick and consume?

Expert Response

Since lingonberries are native to arctic areas, they are not a good choice for Maryland.   http://www.fruit.cornell.edu/berry/production/pdfs/Lingonberries.pdf   You might try other Vaccinium species instead, such as blueberries.  http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/hillside-blueberry  http://extension.umd.edu/growit/fruit-profiles/blueberries  vw
